Popok Tri Wahyudi is one of Yogyakarta’s new wave of artists. With his dynamic and highly entertaining comic-book style, Popok straddles the world of art, politics and humour.

Popok’s inventiveness is a reflection of the underlying openness and vitality of Indonesian public life, especially post-Reformasi. Soeharto’s fall has sparked off immense changes in the media and in the arts.

Regional columnist and consultant Karim Raslan will be discussing both Popok’s work and Indonesian contemporary art – currently one of the most exciting art markets in the world.

Karim will also explain the way that the Republic’s art, culture and literature can inform and deepen our understanding of this country of over 230 million people and the myriad opportunities it presents to Malaysians.
