Dis-chromatic is a visual art group exhibition that will be held in Small Talk with the Moon from the 23rd of December 2010 until the 8th of January 2011.
This exhibition will feature pieces of artwork that are produced with very minimal use of colour, concentrating mainly on the particularities and essence of a given piece.
‘Dis-chromatic’ will showcase the works of five young and emerging artists from Malaysia –
• Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj
• Mohd Hirzaq Harris
• Khairul Arshad
• Khairul Izham
• Anisa Abdulah.
It aims to demonstrate the individuality of each of the artist and their respective styles and techniques in producing their artworks.
Najib claims that it is the surface treatment that acts as the background of his artwork that should be the primary focus of it, while the image illustrated on this surface is to be viewed secondarily. He values the accidental flaws in art even more so than the perfection of it.
Hirzaq on the other hand appreciates art in its intricacies and details, as is explicitly demonstrated in his own artworks, and the fine precision of his lines has become the quality that individualizes his style.
Khairul Arshad and Khairul Izham choose childhood as the subject matter to explore in their art. While Arshad tries to manifest in his art the imagination and superhero fantasies he used to have as a child, Khairul Izham prefers to illustrate childhood in a more clear-cut and concrete manner, as viewed from an adult’s perspective.
Anisa Abdullah, or Arab, as she is more affectionately known, draws inspiration from the hustle-bustle and chaos of city life. She is attracted to the sounds, sights and feel of the city and its inhabitants, and expresses this in her works.
Dis-chromatic opens on the 23rd of December 2010 at 8.00pm, and will be on until the 8th of January 2011. It will be held at:
Small Talk with The Moon,
No 5, Jalan 12/15,
