Your attention please! Pesta Chow Kit Kita is happening this Sunday, 21 Nov 2010, 2 – 7pm at KL Krash Pad on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

It’s a celebration and showcases the fruits of Chow Kit Kita, a community mapping project by teens, for teens, who live in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur.

After going through 6 workshops  (illustration, photography, video, acting, t-shirt printing, and research), participants produced a mural of the Chow Kit map, brochures, posters, videos, photo exhibition and a drama performance. CHOW KIT KITA (SUDIRMAN) KTV

A music video by participants of CHOW KIT KITA (phase 1), aged 13 – 15 years old! This video was directed, shot and edited by the participants in a 2-day video workshop facilitated by Imri Nasution. Footages were recorded using a point-and-shoot digital camera and edited using Windows Movie Maker.

A DAY IN THE LIFE IN CHOW KIT

These photographs were captured and edited by the participants during a 2-day photography workshop facilitated by Ambrose Poh, Nanda and Koon. Shot using a point-and-shoot digital camera and edited using freeware, Gimp. Heartfelt captions written by respective photographers.

Atikah, 13 tahun: Ada seorang penjual sayur di dalam pasar yang sangat sibuk. Tempatnya laris dan banyak sayur yang segar. Nama-nama sayur kailan, timun, jagung dan sebagainya. Sungguh sedap.

Azmi Ibrahim, 13 tahun: Hidup ini banyak dengan pancaroba. Macam pistol dengan kelapa. Walaupun berbeza tapi duduk bersama.

Ogy, 15 tahun: Pada suatu hari yang lalu, saya dan Kak Iqa berjalan di hadapan bazaar raya. Saya telah ditugaskan untuk belajar mengambil gambar. Saya pergi ke sebuah kedai yang sangat banyak pilih… tudung. Saya betemu dengan jurujual tudung itu. Jurujual itu kelihatan sangat sedih kerana dia telah ditinggalkan isteri yang tercinta. Isterinya pergi ke tandas untuk ketika but muka jurujual itu kelihatan sedih sekali.

THE BUILDINGS OF CHOW KIT

These 3D box buildings were hand-drawn by participants after going through a 1-day illustration workshop by Fahmi Reza. They were taught *the secret* to drawing and the results: gorgeous colonial buildings of Chow Kit brought back to life!

There will also be live band and hip-hop performances by PESAWAT, Raja Nas and Vandal and more. And T-shirt printing (so bring a plain t-shirt along with you). And fun. And crazy times. And laughing. BE THERE!
