So you wanna be an artist…

Marcel Duchamp as Rrose Sélavy

In case you haven’t realised, being an artist takes more than just waking up at three in the afternoon, attending art openings in a scraggly outfit and whining about how people just don’t get what you’re trying to express through your art, because clearly they aren’t collecting it. Come this end of June, RogueArt and House of Matahati is giving you the low down on what art school teachers fail to impart – the nuts and bolts of surviving and making it through the precarious art world we call our home.

Ever want to learn how to write that bloody proposal that gets you a sponsored artist residency in Berlin? Or how to jazz up your portfolio to seduce a gallerist into giving you a go on their exhibition roster? Or how to price your work and make sure you’re not short-changed by a scheming dealer? Or on a more basic level, how to go indie and set up your very own exhibition?

If it’s a yes to any of the above, we think this two day workshop is what you need! Funny how these things, rudimentary to the survival of artist in our competitive art world, are never really taught in school. One would naturally think how higher education being industry driven would have the common sense to ensure that their curriculum are tailored to the needs of the market.

But not to worry, this a workshop that is going to receive two thumbs up from ARTERI for effort. We certainly hope that this will become an annual programme!

I hope this is recorded. I really want to go but I got to work…
Do we know if it will be recorded?

Great opportunity to learn from each other. Mentorship is always lacking in our art practice.
