This exhibition features the works of three male artists: Pranoto, Ong Oh Hup Hoe and Zulkiflee Zainal Abidin.
Figure painting has always been known to be the hardest subject matter to capture especially the women figure. The proportion, organic curves, various shapes and sizes, made it the most fascinating element to capture be it men or artists alike. From Boticelli’s naturalist figures to Picasso’s angular cubic human forms to Antony Gormley sculptures, human figure has been so often depicted & perceived in different interpretations of forms over the centuries.
‘Garis-Garis Penghayatan’ centres on 3 different male artists from different backgrounds on their beliefs, observations & feelings on human figures. And they have masterfully expressed their versions of interpretation on human figures through various techniques, strokes and medium.
‘Garis-Garis Penghayatan’ capture the appreciation of lines that contribute to the different perspectives of human figure. Starting from Pranoto, the well known figure painter in Bali with his impressive expressions of live nude models to our local Penang artist Ong Oh Hup Hoe’s much lauded two-dimensional imaginative forms, and finally Zulkiflee Zainul Abidin & his most creative yet unconventional exploration on medium in his paintings
Garis-Garis Penghayatan opening is on Sunday 27 June at 10am. The exhibition continues until 27 july 2010.
