SGFA will host a dynamic exhibition on renowned architect and designer, Charlotte Perriand, in conjunction with the French Arts Festival, Malaysia. The exhibition will be opened by H.E. Marc Barety, French Ambassador to Malaysia. Furnishings designed by Perriand and images, will be on view at the Gallery along with an extensive documentation on her work and life.
Charlotte Perriand (1903 – 1999) , a pioneer of interior architecture, introduced the concept of ‘ fitting-out adapted to the used’, at a time when decorative art had become an institution and where the “setting” imposed its luxury on daily life.
She collaborated regularly with famed architect Le Corbusier, but developed her unique sensibilities and aesthetics. She lived in Japan for several years , a country which at that time, was closed to the rest of the world. There she built a dogma which became a life long guide – the “ volumetry of the space”.
