House of Matahati is looking for a gallery manager to help run their nifty establishment in Ampang, Selangor. For all you creatives out there who’s been itching to take up a career in the visual art, there is no better opportunity than this. The art space has through the years made a name for itself as an incubator for young local talents, running studio residencies, exhibitions, as well as an Emerging Artists Award.

As those of us who have been around know, art managers are hard to find. They don’t normally bask in the limelight though they play an essential and important role in our industry. In fact, they make things work because they are usually the most grounded of multi-taskers, reining in lofty curators and procrastinating artists, at the same time, placating and cajoling at times very demanding and attention-seeking collectors! The show must, after all, go on.

Anyway, the low-down –

Responsibilities:
– Manage exhibition roster by maintaining good working relationship between artists, curators and the gallery.
– Provide sales support and services by maintaining good working relationship with collectors and patrons.
–  Handle publicity for all gallery-related events by establishing strong rapport with media personnel.
– Update House of Matahati blog and represent the House of Matahati at art events.

Requirements:
– Candidate ideally should have prior experience working in the art or creative industry.
– Full Time Job. 6 day week (Monday – Saturday; gallery hours)
– Must be able to communicate in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
– Passion for art. Willingness to learn. Good interpersonal skills.
