Personal Favourites II @ Pelita Hati Gallery 27 Jun – 25 July 2009
We certainly haven’t been featuring a lot of exhibition previews here on ARTERI. Part of the reason is because we can barely keep up with our personal appointments let alone take first peak on an up-coming show. But there are exhibitions that deserve to be flagged and heboh-heboh-kan way before they open, just so that everyone can mark it in their organiser and make sure they don’t miss it. We like to think that the opportunity to look at rare and old works that are normally stored away as prized collections in the homes of the wealthy is not to be missed.
Personal Favourites as an exhibition that is just as much about the history of Malaysian art as educating new collectors about the secondary art market in Malaysia. Recognising that there are no auction houses specialising in modern and contemporary Malaysia art, Pelita Hati wants to create an awareness of the possibility and avenues where collections of artworks can be resold.
For the rest of us, there’s a good deal of history for us to soak in. While this is often presented in a piecemeal manner – no grand narratives, no unified theme – there’s no reason for you not to pester the ever egregious gallerists of Pelita Hati (ask nicely and you shall receive!) into giving us a short introductory tour of the exhibited works. Where else better to learn about our nation’s art history?
Here’s a sneak preview of exhibited works:
Awang Damit
Latiff Mohiddin
Redza Piyadasa
Yusof Ghani
