ARTERI is all excited about the upcoming Arts For Grabs + KL Alternative Book Festival, running from 9 – 10 May 2009 at the Annexe Gallery. We especially look forward to Dr. Farish Noor’s reappraisal of the batik’s multifarious cultural, ethnic and historical origins, exploring its popular appeal and its discourse as a local art form, in The Cloth That Cuts.
Since we are such history geeks, Gostan Forward, is a performance lecture by dance doyenne Marion D’Cruz that we think no one should miss. Also hot on our to-do list is to attend Reading Lolita In KL, joining Marina Mahathir, Cecil Rajendra and others as they read poetry and excerpts from books, plays, scripts that have been banned in many countries throughout history.
Last but not least, a little bit of blatant self-promotion is in order. Dont’ forget to pop by Sharon + Zedeck’s Art For Grabs stall, featuring their collaborative venture, fusing the lyricism of the visual and the literary. On Sunday, our new interns from Singapore, Haseena and Zahirah, will take up a stall space at the KL Alternative Book Festival to promote their own independently produced literary + fine art zine, Godspeed.

See you at the Annexe this Saturday!
