Open Call for ASEF’s upcoming 7th Asia-Europe Art Camp – Art Workshop for Visual Arts 2009 in Luxembourg:
“The 7th Asia-Europe Art Camp – Art Workshop for Visual Arts 2009 is being organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation in association with Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain and the University of Luxembourg. The Camp aims to encourage artistic exchanges between Asian and European visual arts professionals at theoretical, artistic and personal levels.
The Camp will bring together a core group 9 European and 9 Asian visual artists – selected through an Open Call for applications – in Luxembourg from 5 to 19 July 2009 in its first phase and work towards further phases in Shanghai in 2010. The Camp – which has for its theme this year “Moved, Mutated and Disturbed Identities” – is open to young visual artists (25-35 years) from ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) countries. Deadline for applications is 15 April 2009.
The collaborative Art Workshop between Shanghai and Luxembourg is meant to encourage artistic exchanges between Asian and European artists and visual arts experts on theoretical, artistic and human levels. It confronts European and Asian artists to Chinese realities, Asian and European artists to Luxembourg’s realities.
The general theme of the 7th Asia-Europe Artcamp will be “Identities” (working title) – changing identities, fake identities, multiple identities, lost identities…In Luxembourg as well as in Shanghai, four artists or theorists will join the group for a short period as guest lecturers. They will give a public lecture on the relation between the theme and their work/research, and will spend a couple of days with the participating artists. During meetings in Shanghai and in the online conferences, the 3 workshop leaders and the coordinators of the art institutions will develop a concept and define the theme more precisely.”

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Hmm… I looked through the guidelines, one of the application requirements is that you have to be a Master’s Degree holder (or at least complete your Master’s by June 2009).
Also, it’s got to be an online portfolio :(
bah! since when do artists have to earn a Master’s degree to be counted as qualified professionals?? these guys have gotten everything wrong!

hello,
just received a reply from ASEF, as i felt the
Matser holder criterion would be discouraging some suitable applicants,
“We would encourage artists with a strong portfolio to apply, even if they do not have a Master’s degree. The Jury will make the final selection based on the work of the artists.
Thanks for your assistance in reaching out to Malaysian artists.”
