Krishen Jit – ASTRO Fund is in its fourth year running and by now it is common knowledge that it is one of the very few commendable initiatives in existence that are seed funding some of the boldest and more thoughtful projects we in KL have been spoilt with over the past years. ARTERI extends our heartfelt congratulations to all grantees! We look forward to the realisation of your project!

2009’s grantees are:

Beverly Yong – RM 10,000
For: A major book of essays on Malaysian art – a collection of existing and commissioned essays covering key themes and subjects concerning Malaysian art practice, and its context and history.

Fauzi Yusoff – RM 10,000
For: An audio-visual documentary about ordinary routine life in Malaysia entitled Satu Hari. This documentary will highlight culture, history, art, architecture and people.

Pentas Project Theatre Production – RM 7,500
For: A Word in A Year. A collaborative theatre project gathering artists from various disciplines and cultural backgrounds to each create a 10 minute performance of any kind, based on a word chosen that best represents their thoughts and feelings about 2009.

KongHwee & Ying – RM 7,000
For: Orang Asli Animal Tales. A book of 26 animal tales told by the Orang Asli (indigenous people) of Peninsular Malaysia, compiled by field researcher Dr. Lim Boo Liat and verified by medical scientists. The book has over 30 illustrations drawn by Gasur, who is an Orang Asli from Tualang.

Tan Nan See – RM 2,000
For: Solo exhibition entitled Artist Sojourn. Every work in this solo exhibition will provide additional sensory experience including everyday gestures such as eating, reading, smelling, opening the window, etc. Audience will need to participate in order to view the work.
