Nizam Abdullah: Puzzle Me, 2009

Exhibition: Unconscious: Self: Conscious, Portraiture in 21st Century Malaysia

At 67 Tempinissatu Gallery (Seksan’s Space)

Opening Hours: 12-6pm Monday -Saturday, 6-29 November

ARTERI is thrilled to present the 2nd exhibition in a series of projects to support a diverse range of artists. Come take a good look at the guys on display, that is: Nizam Abdullah, Saiful Razman, Samsuddin Lappo, Nurazmal Md Yusoff and Zulkiflee Zainul Abidin, at us and yourselves on the opening night Friday 6 November 2009 at 8PM to have fun, chit chat and ponder just how portraiture hides and lays bare who we are.

What is the function of the contemporary portrait painting in Malaysia? How does it reveal how we see ourselves and those around us? What are the current personal and social concerns of painters using this subject matter in the landscape of contemporary Malaysia and why is it still an urgent pursuit for artists to follow? These questions and many more are discussed in Unconscious: Self: Conscious_ Portraiture in the 21st Century a new exhibition by Malaysia’s next generation of young painters. Featuring new work by all the artists the exhibition contributes fresh public and personal perspectives on what it means to be a Malaysian as well as thoughts on contemporary painting.

If you are as confused as the rest of us on who we are, who we think we are and how the rest of the world looks at our beautiful faces come on down and put your Freudian thinking hats on…

Opening Night Request – Guests who drive are asked to park their cars over at Lucky Gardens shop houses instead of the residential neighbourhood to avoid causing traffic inconveniences. The back door to 67, Jalan Tempinis Satu will be opened and candle-lit to help you identify our location. Please refer to map below:

I see Nizam Abdullah’s work as the picture but he’s not listed as a featured artist? =/
