Has it been six months??? Though ARTERI is still a wee toddler, we think it’s about time we have an office to call our own. Basically, what we thought is necessary, as the site grows by the day, is a space for meetings, interviewing artists, organising activities and various other projects we have in mind for next year.

So where have we moved to? Like all discerning cultural practitioners, we are part of the cultural exodus that is opting out of the hustle and bustle of KL into the leafy suburb of Petaling Jaya. As if KLUE’s (in their latest issue) prophesy about the art-ification of PJ has come true, we’re jumping on the bandwagon and setting up camp in MERAH.

MERAH (short for Mansion for Experimentation, Research, Arts and Horticulture) is a multidisciplinary artist studio/workspace/garden-farm/hang-out located in Seksyen 17. Once we saved up enough to buy a kettle for the house, we would love to invite everyone to come over and join us for a cuppa whenever you’re in the neighbourhood!

While our team and the other members of MERAH busy ourselves with making the place feel like home, here are some preliminary photos of the space!

The denizens of MERAH are a colourful bunch. One could even argue we’re a truly muhibbah lot. The three rooms upstairs are used as permanent studios by:

Here’s our new intern, Patricia Lajumin from Sabah! Patricia is an English major at a local college. Expect to see her out and about town over the next few months covering events, cosying up to artists and coming up with lots of exciting ideas for ARTERI.

Also, a photo of our ‘artist-in-residence’! Fahmi Redza will be staying with us until the end of the year. Konon-nye working on a super secret project, although this project is already announced on some other website -___- Anyway, we’re so happy to have a communist socialist with us!

Last but not least, a gotong royong picture! Chi Too is cleaning my computer while everyone looks on.

MERAH is located at:

Other denizens not featured include the feminist farmers who will be heading the horticulture department of MERAH and house mascot, Munkao.

Ehh, takde cat merah, pun! Nampaknye hebat, tapi perlu di-canggih-fikasikan sikit. Minta orang graffiti dinding, lah. Dan bukanlah lebih patut MERAH bermakna Merayakan Anak Haram? :P

Seriously, can’t wait to visit and have some kaya toast!
