MALAYSIA-AUSTRALIA VISUAL ARTIST RESIDENCY

Currently open for applications.

This residency is intended to encourage links between artistic communities in Australia and Malaysia, and to support individual artists, in recognition of how both countries have provided many opportunities for the Hijjas family.

This is a funded 12-month residency, providing accommodation, studio, financial assistance of RM2,000 per month for living and materials, and an exhibition at the end of the year, all on the Rimbun Dahan compound. Each year, one Australian and one Malaysian artist are selected and share a show at the end. The Australian is also provided with a return economy air fare between Australia and Malaysia. All proceeds from sales at the exhibition go to the artists. The residency program, in consultation with the artist, chooses two pieces from the exhibition for its permanent collection.

Applications for this residency should be submitted by the end of August for consideration for the residencies of the following year. The residency starts after Chinese New Year (usually February or March) culminating in an exhibition before Chinese New Year the following year.

Accommodation consists of either a two-bedroom cottage with an Asian kitchen and bathroom, or a studio apartment with a small kitchen and bathroom attached.
